My Background

Born in Tampa in 1960 to parents who were first generation Floridians whose parents emigrated from Cuba.

My parents were both born in Tampa and did not have an easy childhood, growing up during the Great Depression Era. 

Neither one of them were able to graduate high school due to having to work instead to help support their families. 

In retrospect, this instilled in them a high value on higher education, which they later applied to their children, especially to myself.

My Father, Peter Hidalgo, Sr.,  enlisted in the US Army at the start of World War 2 along with some of his friends and many others to defend our country after the Japanese attack on our naval forces at Pearl Harbor. 

As fate would have it, my Father was assigned to the Infantry and was sent to Ft. Benning to paratrooper school. 

Unfortunately, or fortunately, he broke his ankle on his first jump, but then served in the mechanized infantry as a machine gunner on a armored half track in the Pacific. Once he completed his three year enlistment and was Honorably Discharged, he returned to Tampa and married my Mother, Olga Gallo.
